Midweek Music Video Post: Kanye, Jay Z, Florence

Media, Review

There are always tons of interesting music videos going around, but two caught my eye in the past 24 hours…and then reminded me of a previous video.

Also-shameless plug here-if you read these regularly, please follow on Facebook and Twitter! I can get more music updates to you on Twitter, and more photos from concerts and such on Facebook! Thanks!

No Church In The Wild

First up, Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘No Church In The Wild’ from Watch the Throne. This album wasn’t one of my favorites from 2011, but this was my favorite song from the set.

For those who aren’t familiar with the album, you may recognize the song from other media, such as the Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby trailer.

What do you think? I certainly find it relevant to current events. What’s with the elephant at the end? If you know me (which 90% of you probably don’t), you know that I love elephants. Especially

Baby elephants! Oops, how’d he sneak into this music post? Because he’s just so gosh darn cute, that’s why. Insert Mancini’s ‘Baby Elephant Walk’. Eee!

Anywho. I have a feeling the elephant at the end of ‘No Church In The Wild’ is a different type of elephant. Catch my drift? No? There it went!

Screen capture from Florence and the Machine’s ‘Spectrum’. (Vevo)

Next I have Florence and the Machine’s ‘Spectrum’ from Ceremonials. Muscially, I enjoyed ‘Seven Devils’ more, but that is an intensely eerie track that can certainly give you chills. Some reviews stated that they thought the track was too ‘corny’ and ‘Halloween-esque’ but I think that is a poor take on a fabulous song. Is there anything wrong with taking a song down a darker path? Sometimes songs are creepy. After all, what about the Siouxsie and the Banshees song ‘Face to Face’? Though I know it was used in Batman Returns.

I digress. The newest video from Florence and the Machine is for ‘Spectrum’ and it’s certainly gorgeous.

Those shots of Welch in the water remind me of some sort of art deco Little Mermaid. Gah, why did I not think of that as a project when I was at Emerson?

Either way, I could be biased, because ballet always catches my eye, so I just love watching the dancers in general. What do you think? Also, Florence and the Women in Music post coming up? Hmm?

Lastly, these two videos combined together reminded me of another, older video.

The lyrics in ‘Runaway’ are not the most pleasant, but I loved the video.

I know, I know. ‘Ballet was so last year, archery is cool now’. Blergh. I’ve done both. Sorry Katniss. Sticking with the dancers for now. Also, if you never watched the full length video from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, here it is.
