Vanity Fair

Costumes, costumes! I love costume design, though I am far from having any skill for it outside of the sketching phase.

Science fiction has long been a genre that continues to capture my imagination in the field of costume design. Combine that with my love of science fiction film, and its impact on our culture, and my first pitch for Vanity Fair was born.

…and speaking of costumes and science fiction, how about some superheroes and action stars? Female action stars haven’t always been dressed for the job so much as dressed for the male gaze, but we’re making progress. Wonder Woman, Rey, and the new Tomb Raider were given a step up from past heroes like Buffy and Xena, and upcoming films offer more hope.

2017 kicked off with The Women’s March, ripped down powerful and corrupt systems with #MeToo, and catalyzed the #TimesUp movement. It’s only representative of the times that our action heroes gained equal representation.
